Camp Balook
Learning Outdoors
An important part of Westall Secondary College is our Outdoor Education
Centre at Balook, where we have successfully conducted school camps since
1969. Year 7 and 8 students will have the opportunity to go on a one week
camp, Monday to Friday.
The visit to Camp Balook gives the students the unique opportunity to
experience activities not available at Westall Secondary College,
including:
-
Learning new outdoors skills related to Mathematics, Science and
Geography.
-
Actually applying many of the skills learnt at school in the classroom to
the surroundings in which they apply.
-
Becoming familiar with plants, trees and animals found in the Australian
countryside.
Where is Camp Balook?
Camp Balook is in South Gippsland, some 200 km south-east from Melbourne,
midway between Traralgon and Yarram, in the Strzelecki Ranges. The camp

lyre-birds, koalas, kookaburras, rosellas, echidnas, wombats, rabbits and
wallabies.
