An International Perspective

pencils

Westall has a strong international perspective, which values the harmonious diversity of cultures within the College. The College ESL Program (English as a Second Language) which is available at all year levels is led by specialist Teachers who are fully supported by excellent resources within an inclusive College culture.

Westall’s overseas student exchange program and active relationship with many international sister schools encourages students to look outwards to the world, so that they can truly participate in an evolving global community.

Leadership

Student leadership forms an integral part of College culture. The Junior and Senior Representative Council, Peer Support, Cross-age Tutoring and Community Involvement Programs help underpin a culture of mutual support and leadership.

Sport

Westall offers a full range of summer and winter sporting choices. Both inter school and intra school sporting programs provide students with an opportunity to enjoy the benefit of teamwork and the attainment of common goals.

Education and Opportunity

Creative Arts

A rich and stimulating program in the creative arts enhances the life of the whole College. Performing Arts include Instrumental Music and Singing. Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Communication and Media Studies are an important part of the College Curriculum.

Positive Assessment

Assessment and reporting of student progress is regular, diagnostic and prescriptive. There are formal reports each semester, parent interviews and informal regular contact by means of the Student Diary in which homework tasks are recorded.

An Engaging Curriculum

Our diverse and engaging curriculum at Westall College is designed to maximise each student’s “beyond school” life expectations, to help them discover and develop the areas in which they are gifted and talented.

Acceleration & Remediation

All students are encouraged to extend themselves through enrichment, subject acceleration and work experience options. Academic support is provided in both Junior and Senior years through extension and remediation programs, cross age tutoring and study groups.

Transition from WELC

The Westall English Language Centre (WELC) provides a full-time intensive English course at the level of the secondary education system for new arrival and full-fee paying international students. WELC is situated in the south-eastern region of Melbourne; sharing the same site as Westall Secondary College.
