Preamble
Audio Visual equipment such as overhead-projectors, TV/VCR trolleys and Averkey TV-computer units have become an integral part of student learning, providing access to video productions and movies. This provides students with the opportunity to experience situations and develop skills that help develop a greater understanding of the society in which they live and work in. This policy has been developed within the framework of the college Learning Technology Plan.
Rationale
Westall Secondary College aims to support students, staff and community members in developing an interest in life long learning and study. The guidelines for the use of Audio Visual equipment in this policy aims to encourage Key Learning Areas to maximise the effective use of AV resources by:

Encourage sharing and access to AV equipment between different rooms by all staff.

Rationalise the reservation, storage, mobility and location of AV equipment.

Taking steps to secure and clearly mark AV equipment.

Centralising the servicing and budgeting for purchases for repairs or replacement.
-
Planning for upgrades to digital media with technologies such as digital television and DVDs.

Promoting the appropriate use of videos in the classroom.
Goals

To provide a clear statement regarding college ownership of all AV resources.

To ensure that all classrooms have good access to college AV resources.

To ensure that equipment is maintained in good working order

To ensure that all AV equipment faults or breakdowns are promptly repaired.
Practical Implementation

The Learning Technology Coordinator and Team shall;
-
Annually publish and prominently display a map of the college AV resources.

Ensure that most college staff can readily access and reserve a TV/VCR trolley and Averkey unit for use in their classrooms.

Research options and educational applications for purchase of new AV media (including DVD, digital and Averkey computer projection technologies)

Submit an annual draft budget and approve the purchase of any new AV resources or trolleys to facilitate their location or usage.

Consider the location, mobility and storage options for any existing AV equipment and recommend any changes.

The Library Resource Manager shall;

Implement a system to reserve and log the use of TV/VCR resources by college staff.

Coordinate the regular service and ongoing repairs to any existing AV resources.

Submit an annual draft budget for the repair of current AV resources.
-
Help instruct staff in how to appropriately use AV resources in the classroom.

Develop procedures for staff to reserve a library TV/VCR for use in the classroom.

Monitor the effective use of AV equipment, report to the learning technology team.

Evaluation
The Learning Technology Committee shall annually evaluate this policy and its implementation and present any recommendations to the College Council.
